Who is… Team WaR

With the Pro-AM Classic slatted to start tomorrow, its the perfect time to give some background information on the four amateur teams that will be competing against the 12 franchise teams.

The group stage will consist of 4 groups of 4 teams, with each group having 3 franchise teams and 1 amateur team. The top 2 from each group will go into the 8-team single elimination bracket to fight for the championship. It’ll be very difficult for any of the amateur teams to make it to the bracket, but you never know!

Europe’s Finest

While Team WaR has just recently picked up this squad for the Pro-AM Classic, Denza & Co have been competing in the Europe Challenger Circuit for the entire season. Their complete roster consists of:

  • Bjarne “Denza” Sleebus
  • Jack “Maple” McCartney
  • Elliot “Wardy” Ward
  • Connor “Weeman” Chilton

These four players have teamed together since the end of February, competing in five tournaments as a team. Here are their results:

  • Elite Stage 2 Qualifier – Qualified
  • Europe CDC Cup #7 – 4th
  • Elite Europe Stage 2 – 1st
  • Europe CDC Cup #8 – Top 6
  • CDC Minnesota Open – 2nd

They’ve done a terrific job in the major tournaments, while just falling short in the Cups.

Elite Stage 2 Europe

Denza & Co qualified for the Europe Elite Stage 2 under the team name “Vengeance”. The EU version of the Elite is just as loaded as the North American version having Rokkr Academy, Ultra Academy, Sukry’s Bakery and Doge Nation being some of the favorites to top of the table.

Even with the strong competition, Vengeance played terrific in the group stage of the event. They’d finish with a 6-1 record to top the group, only dropping one series to Ultra Academy. During the bracket Playoffs of the event, they’d go a perfect 3-0 to win the tournament.

Series Results

This is their series breakdown for the entire Stage:

  • 3-1 victory vs Sileo Synes
  • 3-2 victory vs Doge Nation
  • 3-1 victory vs The Originals
  • 1-3 loss vs Ultra Academy
  • 3-0 victory vs Revenge Tour
  • 3-1 victory vs Sukry’s Bakery
  • 3-1 victory vs Rokkr Academy
  • 3-0 victory vs Doge Nation [Playoffs]
  • 3-1 victory vs Rokkr Academy [Playoffs]
  • 3-1 victory vs Rokkr Academy [Playoffs]

It was one of the cleanest runs in European Elite history and the team took home $20,000.

Player Stats

The MVP of the team during their run at the Elite had to have been Wardy. The star SMG finished the Stage with a league leading 1.23 overall KD, while also leading the league in slayer Rating (92.27), KDA (1.32), Hardpoint KD (1.23), Hardpoint Kills per 10 Mins (2.66), SnD Opening Duel Win % (71.4%, 20-4), and Opening duels won (20). He was hands down the MVP of the entire Stage.

But it wasn’t just Wardy performing very well in the Elite. Each player had “pop off” moments that would help win series and get them to the Grand Finals. They were the only team to have every player positive in Control and was just one kill away from being the only team to have all four players having a positive overall KD. Watch out for these players to make highlight reel plays this weekend.

Pro AM Classic: Group C Preview

Team WaR were placed in Group C with the London Royal Ravens, LA Thieves, and New York Subliners. This give them a very good chance to make some upsets in group play, as two of those teams just had roster changes and LAT are going through role changes. During the coaches poll we asked each coach to pick the two teams they thought would make it out of each group and Team WaR received 4 votes to make it out. This gives them a solid 33.3% chance to make it to bracket play, the highest out of any of the four amateur teams.

When to watch Team WaR play?
