The #6 player of the Modern Warfare 2 season brought to you by Thunder Pick is the Thunder from Down Under, Amer “Pred” Zulibeari. The 2022 Rookie of the Year had another insane year for the Seattle Surge.
After breaking into the Pro League during Vanguard, Pred asserted his dominance on the SMG across every mode. He continued to get better during Modern Warfare 2 even though the team results never seemed to come to fruition. Pred finished the year leading the CDL in multiple SND categories including KD (1.26), kills per round (0.88), and multi-kill round % (24.3%). The superstar SMG did that while having a 1.17 KD in Control and 1.11 KD in Hardpoint. His high-level performance in every mode while providing unmatched slaying on the SMG is what makes him so special.
The Seattle Surge had a rollercoaster season during Vanguard that was highlighted with a victory at Major 3 but marred by multiple last-place finishes. Their new year goal would be to find the consistency that they had lacked in the previous season. Another year with the same roster led by Sam Fenix would be expected to continue fighting for Championships across the year.
The season would start on a high note, with the Surge making it to the bracket stage after losing to Atlanta. They would get better from there, taking down LAT, New York, and finally get revenge on Atlanta to make it to the Finals. Unfortunately, they’d match up against against red-hot New York team and lose 4-1 to place 2nd in the opening Major.
From then the season wouldn’t go as smoothly after the hot start. During Stage 2, the Surge would finish 1-4 in the qualifiers before finishing last at the Major. They’d rebound slightly during the qualifiers of Stages 3 and 4, having a combined 8-2 record online but couldn’t get the results on LAN. Even during the low points of the team, Pred continued to thrive individually. During Stage 3 Pred finished with the highest overall KD (1.25), Slayer Rating (93.81), SND KD (1.56), and SND kills per round (1.00).
The Surge would continue the downward spiral during Stage 5, finishing 1-4 in the final qualifiers before finishing Top 12 at Major 5. The team as a whole would underperform across the board and would need to reset going into Champs. The tournament started with a 3-1 defeat against Atlanta to get sent to the Lower Bracket. The Surge would rebound with game 5 wins against LAT and Texas to make it into the Top 4. In a rematch against the FaZe, the Surge would be unable to get revenge and fall 3-1 to be eliminated in 4th. With rumors swirling around the status of each player, it would be a disappointing ending to the season for the franchise.
Hardpoint
Historically, Pred has always been a great Hardpoint player in the CDL and that didn’t change during Modern Warfare 2. For the year, Pred had a 1.11 KD in the mode with per 10-minute data of 23.6 kills, 34.1 seconds of hill time, and 2739.4 damage. He added a 71.5% non-traded kill percentage and 128.7 damage per life. His best stage of the season was the third stage of the year. Pred had a 1.23 KD in hardpoint while leading the CDL with 24.7 kills per 10 minutes.
While the Surge had a rollercoaster of a season, their best mode as a team was Hardpoint. Seattle finished the CDL season with a 40-35 record, with a record split of 11-16 on LAN compared to 29-19 in online qualifiers. Online is where Pred played better individually as well. The star SMG finished with a 1.15 KD online with 23.9 Kp10M, 2794.4 DMGp10M, and averaged 134.3 damage per life. Even though his hill time wasn’t ranked very highly, Pred’s slaying was exceptional on the SMG.
SnD
Pred’s best mode of the season was easily Search & Destroy. He finished with the highest KD of the CDL with a 1.26, which was also the only positive KD on Seattle. Pred also was extremely proficient in opening duels, having the 2nd highest opening duel win percentage (60.1%) and 2nd highest opening duels won per round (0.21). He also led the CDL in kills per round (0.88), the percentage of rounds with multiple kills (24.3%), and the lowest percentage of rounds with 0 kills (42.6%). For an SMG player, these were extremely good numbers for an entire season.
Overall, Seattle was not a great SND team over the entire season having just a 20-35 record during MW2. They did get better in LAN matches but not greatly, having an 11-16 record. They struggled to get going early in the year, starting 0-12 in online SND matches. This didn’t stop Pred from putting up MVP numbers on LAN in SnD. Over the year, Pred had a 1.28 KD on LAN while winning 60.0% of his opening duels, a league-high 0.89 kills per round, and 101.0 ADR. While Seattle wasn’t a great Search & Destroy team overall, Pred was the best SND player individually.
Control
Control was arguably Seattle’s best mode this past season. They finished with a 23-20 record for the year overall with a 10-9 record in LAN matches. Surge were actually very good at El Asilo, finishing the season with a 10-4 record on the map. During MW2, Pred finished with a 1.17 KD with a 1.11 on the attacking side, 20.7 kills per 10 minutes, 2382.4 damage per 10 minutes, and a KA/D of 1.25.
Looking at which event was best for Pred, it was early in the season during Stage 2. In that stage, the Aussie finished with a 1.32 KD with per 10-minute data of 24.2 kills, 2725.2 damage, and 48.6 engagements. On the attacking side, Pred had an insane 1.28 KD and averaged 1.5 tick captures per attacking round. With more reliable teamwork and better objective efficiency, Pred could be one of the best Control players in the MW3 season.
After rumors during the season that Pred would be joining OpTic Texas after Seth “Scump” Abner's retirement, that move would end up materializing during the offseason. Pred would join OpTic Texas with Kenneth “Kenny” Williams in place of Daniel “Ghosty” Rothe & Cuyler “Huke” Garland. They joined the high-octane duo of Brandon “Dashy” Otell & Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro to form the OpTic roster for Modern Warfare 3.
On paper, this team has a very high ceiling for the upcoming year and should be contenders to win every Major on the schedule. Fans might be in for Pred’s best season of his career with how the roles fit on the team, allowing him to work with his high-paced SMG duo Shottzy. Watch out CDL teams, prime Pred is coming.
