The #2 player of the Modern Warfare 2 season brought to you by Thunder Pick is one-half of the tiny terrors, Tyler “aBeZy” Pharris. The one of, if not the best entry SMG in the CDL, aBeZy had multiple showstopping plays and had a fantastic season for Atlanta.

aBeZy returned to superstar form in 2023, leading the way for Atlanta to finish in the Top 3 at each of the six LAN tournaments and winning Major 2. He was the most impactful SnD player of MW2, excelling not only in opening duels but also in late rounds in clutch situations. His impact across all three modes is what made him one of the best players in the CDL.

Season Review

After a disappointing Vanguard campaign, Atlanta made changes to their starting lineup when they brought in Austin “SlasheR” Liddicoat in place of Alec “Arcitys” Sanderson to be the Main AR of the roster. FaZe was a consistent force during Vanguard but was unable to bring home a championship. This move primed Atlanta to have another season of fighting for championships.

The season started off setting what would be a baseline for Atlanta in online matches. They’d finish 2-2 in the opening qualifiers before top in 3rd during Major 1. Even though the team didn’t take home the championship, they performed well and looked dominant in SnD at Major with their 7-1 record. aBeZy finished with a 1.77 KD in the game mode with 19 opening duels won and 1.10 kills per round at the LAN.

They continued their dominant Search & Destroy run into the second stage of the season, going 3-2 in the qualifiers before heading to Boston. FaZe would march through the bracket at the Major, with notable wins over Toronto, Boston, Minnesota, and then over LAT in the Grand Finals. The team went 7-0 in SnD at the LAN, with aBeZy again finishing with a 1.34 KD, averaged over 3 opening duels won per game, and 0.89 kills per round. This would end up being the only time that Atlanta would take home a title during Modern Warfare 2.

For the rest of the season, Atlanta would continuously finish 3-2 in the qualifiers before finishing Top 3 at every LAN. The team finished 3rd at both Major 3 and 4 before a 2nd place finish at Major 5. A big weak point for the team was the lack of consistency in respawn modes. For the season, the team had a 47-42 record in Hardpoint and 27-27 in Control. To end the season, Atlanta started off with a strong victory over Seattle before falling to Toronto 3-1. FaZe would rebound with wins over Boston and Seattle again, but their run was cut short when New York defeated them 3-1. It was another year of top placements but only just the one major LAN victory.

How good was aBeZy in 2023?

Hardpoint
Respawns weren’t a bright spot for the team, but on an individual level, aBeZy was still very impactful. He finished with a 1.02 KD overall in Hardpoint with 22.5 kills and 2621.2 damage per 10 minutes. aBeZy was one of just seven players to have 40+ kills in a hardpoint map, tying for the 4th highest single-game total of 41 kills.

aBeZy was very consistent across LAN & online while improving as the season went along. He had a 1.02 with 22.8 kills and 2622.7 damage per 10 minutes on LAN for the year. Tyler was at his best at Champs, where he improved to 1.17 KD in Hardpoint with 24.5 kills, 2765.2 damage, and 49.9 hill time per 10 minutes.

SnD
The best player in SnD during Modern Warfare 2, aBeZy finished the 1.22 KD with extremely strong supporting stats. The superstar SMG led the league with 137 opening duels won with a 53.7% win percentage in said duels. He averaged 0.84 KpR, 104.5 ADR, and had more than one kill in 23.5% of rounds played.

aBeZy wasn’t just great in the early rounds, he also had ice in his veins. He finished tied for 4th in total clutches and had the most on Atlanta, finishing with 16 over the year. Tyler was also one of just five players to win a 1v4 during MW2 when he clutched up against New York. This goes with 2 1v3s (Tied for 2nd most) and 6 4 kill rounds (Tied for the most). aBeZy was truly a class above in Search & Destroy.

Control
The swing game mode was the worst of the three for Atlanta, finishing with just a 27-27 record in the mode, but aBeZy was still great individually. The SMG player finished with 1.09 KD in the mode with 19.5 kills per 10 minutes, 0.95 attacking KD, and 1.22 defending KD.

aBeZy was at his best in the mode during Stage 2, when he helped Atlanta win the tournament. Tyler had a 1.26 KD during the stage, finishing with 1.19 attacking KD, 22.4 kills per 10 minutes, and 2447.7 damage per 10 minutes. Each ranked within the Top 5 for the stage and showed his potential when the team was clicking.

A look ahead to Modern Warfare 3

Going into next season, Atlanta has made another roster move. They decided to remove Austin “SlasheR” Liddicoat in favor of Zach “Drazah” Jordan. The move brings in a faster AR that should allow McArthur “Cellium” Jovel to play at his own pace and in the power positions. Going into the new season, Atlanta will again have very high expectations. They will be expected to be in contention to win at every tournament and are firmly ranked in the top four with Texas, Toronto, and New York.
