Rookie of the Year: The 2024 Nominees
The Modern Warfare 3 Season saw eleven Rookies join the Call of Duty League, but only one can be crowded Rookie of the Year.
To help vote on each award, Breaking Point has created a panel of voters from the Community. The panel consists of Breaking Point staff, The Flank team, the on-air broadcast talent, coaches from each of the twelve professional teams, and select members from media within the space.
Each voter was asked to rank their top five players for each award. Each position earns:
1st: 10 points
2nd: 7 points
3rd: 5 points
4th: 3 points
5th: 1 point
After compiling the voters’ ballots, the search has been narrowed to four. Without further ado, here are the Rookie of the Year nominees:
Jovan "O4" Rodriguez
Even with less time within the League, O4 was able to throw himself into the conversation quickly with the Seattle Surge. He played with great pace in respawns, finishing with a rookie-high 82.8 Slayer Rating. His best mode was SND, where O4 finished with a 1.10 KD with 10 clutches (5 1v1s, 3 1v2s, 2 1v3s) in the two stages of play.
Jordan "Abuzah" François
Started on the SMG, slayed on the AR.
After playing Stage 1 on his off-role, Abuzah lit it up the rest of the season on the AR for the Seattle Surge. His best mode was SND, finishing with 1.06 KD in the mode while leading the league with 9 1v1 clutches (3 more than 2nd place). Abuzah was also the only rookie to have a 1.00 KD or better in all three modes on LAN.
Justice "Estreal" McMillan
The LA Rookie helped power the Guerrillas to two Top 6 finishes before coming in 3rd at Major IV. While the team struggled online, Estreal was able to provide high-impact on LAN. That includes a 1.29 SND KD at Major II, 1.78 Control KD at Major III, and 1.03 Hardpoint KD with an 80.6 Slayer Rating at Major IV.
Isaiah "Gwinn" Gwinn
Gwinn impressed very early on with the Royal Ravens, becoming a favorite for the award from the start. On the season Gwinn led all rookies in multiple stat categories including KD (1.07), Respawn KD (1.08), and in Kills, KD, and Damage in Control. He also lead all rookies with a 1.08 KD online, while having the 2nd best LAN KD (1.01).
