In a surprising twist, Donny "Temp" Laroda, a well-known figure in the competitive Call of Duty scene, recently made a decision that caught the community's attention. After a brief stint with a team that lasted a mere 24 hours, Temp has embarked on a new chapter, teaming up with some familiar faces and setting his sights on success in the Call of Duty Challengers scene.
In an exclusive interview with Stocksmen & BreakingPoint, Temp shares insights into his decision and his expectations for the future.
Ace: Why the Decision to Switch Up the Team? What Was Missing in Your Last Team?
Temp - "I really wanted to play with Gwinn, but he got picked up, and my gut told me to go play with Teej and them instead. It's very simple. We were a team for like 24 hours, nothing too deep."
Ace: What Are Your Expectations in Challengers?
Temp - "My primary goal is to win and perform at a high level. I truly want to enjoy it and secure a spot on a league team with the potential to accomplish something special. Financially, I'm in a good place, which allows me to focus on the game with little external stress."
Ace: What Do You Think of Your New Team? What Are the Players' Strong Suits That Make the Squad Solid?
Temp - "I loved teaming up with Teej last year, and we've been friends since we were around 13 or 14 years old. In Search and Destroy (S&D), Prolute, Teej, and I grabbed a top-six placement in the first event last year, even though we didn't win many respawns. We were among the top three to four S&D teams last year, and I expect us to be gross at that mode again."
Ace: What Are Your Thoughts on the Increasingly Competitive Talent Pool in the Challengers Scene? How Do You Envision the Future of the Competitive Call of Duty Landscape?
Temp - "I don't want to look too far ahead because I'm immersed in the present. I hope we can return to the CWL format, maybe with 16 teams, and give open-bracket players a chance. It was rare, but we've seen teams like Stnnr reach grand finals through the open bracket, and tR made it to the finals at CoD Champs. It's a bit funny that they removed the pro-am the year I joined Challengers. I just want the scene to thrive and provide opportunities for everyone."
Ace: What Specific Challenges Do Challengers Players Encounter in Contrast to Those Competing in the CDL?
Team - "Dealing with hackers and playing more matches in general are some of the challenges. I appreciate playing more; in the CDL, you hardly play as much as in the old days, so this change should be fun."
As he charges forward with his new squad, Temp continues to stay true to his love for Call of Duty and provides an enlightening take on his recent team switch.
