Call of Duty League 2026 Season Announcement
CDL Announces New Season Structure for Black Ops 7: Fresh Format, New Majors, and Return of Twitch
The Call of Duty League is shaking things up for the Black Ops 7 season, unveiling a new competitive structure that introduces fresh tournament formats, returning minor events, and a revamped map of major stops across the globe. The 2025 CDL season promises to be one of the most dynamic yet, blending innovation with international expansion.
Global Major Lineup
The new CDL calendar features five marquee stops and a world championship:
Major I: Texas, Hosted by OpTic Texas
Major II: London, Held at DreamHack London
Major III: Atlanta
Major IV: Pari, Hosted by the Gentlemates
Champs: Las Vegas, Hosted by FaZe Vegas
EWC: The Esports World Cup
This year’s schedule takes the CDL global again, with marquee events in both North America and Europe, headlined by the long-awaited return of a London event through DreamHack.
Major Format Overhauls
Each Major will feature its own unique structure, adding variety and new stakes to the season.
Major II: Round Robin Showdown
Major II in London will be an 8-team Major following a full round-robin qualifier, where every team faces each other once. Teams seeded 7–10 will battle in a Play-In Bracket at the end of the qualifiers to secure one of the final Major spots.Major III: Global GSL Format
Major III in Atlanta introduces a 16-team GSL tournament, featuring four international amateur teams from the Challengers circuit. The top eight teams from group play will advance into a double-elimination bracket, making it one of the most inclusive Majors in CDL history.
Minor Tournaments Return
After several years away, Minor Tournaments are back, giving teams more chances to earn CDL Points and prize money during Stages III and IV. Each Minor will be awarded:
1st Place: 30 CDL Points + $20,000
2nd Place: 20 CDL Points
3rd/4th Place: 10 CDL Points
These smaller events will provide added incentive for midseason competition and give rising teams opportunities to climb the standings outside of Majors.
New Game Mode: Overload Replaces Control
After six seasons as the CDL’s third game mode, Control has officially been retired. Taking its place is Overload, a brand-new competitive mode designed for Black Ops 7. Details on Overload’s format and objectives will be revealed closer to launch, but early reports suggest it emphasizes faster pacing and greater team coordination, a shift that could dramatically alter strategy across the league.
Challengers Circuit Expands
The Call of Duty Challengers scene will see its busiest year yet, featuring four Open Tournaments and four Elite Stages. This expanded schedule ensures a steady pipeline of amateur competition, giving emerging players more chances than ever to prove themselves against CDL talent. The MENA Region (Middle East & Northern Africa) will also be added as a Challengers Region.
Twitch Returns to the CDL
In a move fans have been asking for, the CDL will once again stream matches on Twitch, alongside YouTube, giving fans more viewing options and returning the league to one of its most engaging live chat communities.
The Call of Duty League’s 2025 season is shaping up to be a bold reinvention, one that celebrates competition on a global scale while modernizing the format fans have known for years. With new cities, new modes, and the return of Twitch, the Black Ops 7 season could mark the start of a true renaissance for competitive Call of Duty.
