CDL Coaches Poll: Preseason

Introducing the CDL Coaches Poll brought to you by Breaking Point. We have reached out to all 12 CDL coaching staffs around the league to get their thoughts on the current team Power Rankings. We will continue to conduct these polls before and after each major tournament this season.

Each coach rank the opposing teams 1st through 11th, without putting their own team into the rankings. After collecting the rankings from all 12 franchises, each team would be given points for each vote, as seen below:

1st place vote – 11 points

2nd place vote – 10 points

3rd place vote – 9 points

4th place vote – 8 points

5th place vote – 7 points

6th place vote – 6 points

7th place vote – 5 points

8th place vote – 4 points

9th place vote – 3 points

10th place vote – 2 points

11th place vote – 1 point

Disclaimer: I did not vote in the Poll for Atlanta, as I was the one to conduct the poll. RJ completed the poll for Atlanta to avoid any conflict. The data was checked to ensure it was not compromised.

A look around the League

With the season now under a week away from starting, fans have been speculating how each team is fairing in their pre-season scrims. With now only Boston Breach streaming scrims, it is very difficult for fans to see how their favorite teams are doing. That is why we asked some of the only people that see scrims every day to rank the CDL teams.

Atlanta came out strong in the voting, gaining all 11 1st place votes from opposing teams. The reigning champions are expected to continue their Cold War form into Vanguard and be favored for Championships to start.

OpTic Texas was the only other team to be rewarded a 1st place vote, landing #1 in Atlanta’s ranking. With newly added Brandon “Dashy” Otell and Seth “Scump” Abner to the Texas franchise, this team will certainly be a powerhouse for the entire season.

The second tier in the power rankings included the Toronto Ultra and Seattle Surge. This should be kind of shocking for fans, as both teams have been a mystery in the preseason. Toronto of course should be a top team after their wonderful Cold War campaign but have been practicing in Europe until recently. Seattle was one of the earliest teams to start scrimming, and have been impressing coaching staffs in the early portion of the year. Look for both teams to contend early this year for Championships.

The middle of the pack is very congested currently, as very little separates the 5th to 10th teams on this list. Boston Breach has performed exceptionally well since forming, powered by strong performances from veterans Anthony “Methodz” Zinni and Thomas “TJHaly” Haly. Surprisingly Minnesota, New York, LA Thieves, and LA Guerrillas were only separated by just 7 points. Each squad has had highs and lows, but the amount of talent on each roster will make these teams threats to win championships.

The final 2 teams in the ranking are the Florida Mutineers and Paris Legion. While both are at the bottom of the ranking, they both have some strong points that will allow them to upset higher-ranking teams. Expect Florida to be dangerous in SnD & Control, while Paris can easily win respawn modes off of teams. This season will have 12 highly competitive teams.

  1. Is there a place that shows full coaching staffs for teams? I haven’t been able to find anywhere and I’d love to know which teams are being supported by a group (like Faze) and which are relying on a single person to carry the load (Sender of last year).
