Capsidal to Start on LA Thieves, Kenny Out Due to Illness

Kenny Out, Kenyen In — Former Breach player filling in for the Defending Champs

Due to illness, the Los Angeles Thieves will be without Kenny, the 2022 CDL Champs MVP. With two matches on their schedule this weekend, LAT has turned to Capsidal to fill in for the star SMG.

Several sources indicated that Thieves also evaluated Dak, a Challengers SMG player. With a 1.23 overall K/D, Dak currently has the #1 SMG K/D and #2 overall K/D in Stage I of NA Challengers Elite. In the end, Thieves opted to go for a player with prior CDL experience in Capsidal. It is likely that Capsidal will return to the OMiT lineup following this stint with LA. Thieves currently do not have a substitute player on the roster. If he performs well, be on the lookout for a potential long-term deal. LA Thieves declined to comment on either Capsidal or Dak.

Kenyen “Capsidal” Sutton may be a familiar name to CDL fans. He joins the defending champions on a short-term contract after spending time as a Boston Breach starter in Vanguard. He will compete alongside Envoy, Octane, and Drazah in LA’s upcoming matches vs the Toronto Ultra and London Royal Ravens.

Capsidal made a name for himself on Breach but was benched for Vivid towards the end of the season. Most recently, “Big Cap” has been competing in the North American Challengers Division. During Stage I of Challengers Elite NA, Capsidal notched an impressive 1.10 overall KD (3rd among all SMG’s in NA Challengers Elite). Teaming up with top Challengers players Davpadie, Hicksy, and GRVTY on the pick-up squad known as RVNG, Capsidal and co. managed to place Top 6 at the CDL Major 1 Challengers Open Bracket in Raleigh, North Carolina. Following this, the squad was picked up by the American esports organization OMiT.

During his time in the CDL with the Boston Breach, Capsidal posted a 1.01 overall K/D and had the most success in SnD where he posted a 1.11 K/D. After a defeat in Loser’s Round 1 at Major III to the Minnesota Rokkr, Boston opted to bench Capsidal for the rest of the season.

The second weekend of Major II Qualifiers kicks off at 3 PM EST on Friday, January 20.
