BP MW2 Power Ranking: Players Under the most pressure

The race for Champs is on with Major V just on the horizon. The pressure is on for teams to perform down the stretch to end the season on a high note.

While the teams may be the ones fighting for seeds, the pressure is also on the players to find their form in the final weeks of the season. There are some fighting for the chance to raise a trophy, and some fighting to prove that they deserve to be in the League next season. That’s why for this week’s edition of the Power Rankings we are focusing on which players are under the most pressure as the season comes to an end.

How the teams are ranked : The writers, stats team, and content team at Breaking Point were polled to rate each of the 12 teams — putting more weight on recency instead of the entire season. The previous week of play is weighed the most, followed by the rest of the stage, and then Major III results. Each ranks the teams 1st through 12th. After collecting the rankings from the BP team, each team would be given points for each vote, as seen below:

1st – 11 points
2nd – 10 points
3rd – 9 points
4th – 8 points
5th – 7 points
6th – 6 points
7th – 5 points
8th – 4 points
9th – 3 points
10th – 2 points
11th – 1 point
12th – 0 points

The Breaking Point Power Ranking

1st: OpTic Texas

Previous Ranking: 1st ()
Average Points Received : 11.0
Average Ranking Placement: 1.0
CDL Points : 310 (2nd)
Major V Qualifier Week 3 Matches : Saturday May 20th, 4:30 pm EST vs Florida Mutineers

“Some might be quick to say that the pressure is on the Rookie in order for OpTic to beat the ā€œSilver Surferā€ allegations they’ve received after placing 2nd at the last two Majors. But heading into the home stretch of this season, they need their ā€œsuper heroā€ player to rise to the occasion. Dashy is now the longest tenured member of the OpTic CDL Franchise and although he has put on phenomenal performances year after year, he has nothing to show for in terms of Champs. Now is the time for Dashy to solidify the passing of the torch from Scump and add some more hardware into the trophy case in Dallas.”

2nd: Toronto Ultra

Previous Ranking: T-2nd (1)
Average Points Received : 9.4
Average Ranking Placement: 2.6
CDL Points : 265 (3rd)
Major V Qualifier Week 3 Matches : Saturday May 20th, 6:00 pm EST vs LA Guerrillas & Sunday 21st, 3:00 pm EST vs Minnesota Rokkr

“Having just won Major III recently, there isn’t as much pressure on Toronto to find success at Major V. With the young duo of Hicksy and Scrappy, the pressure isn’t even that high to win Champs but the players will certainly put a lot of themselves. The most pressure might be on CleanX to match the output of other superstar SMGs when they matchup in bracket play. If he can, Ultra will battle deep into the weekend.”

3rd: Atlanta FaZe

Previous Ranking: 4th (1)
Average Points Received : 9.3
Average Ranking Placement: 2.7
CDL Points : 325 (1st)
Major V Qualifier Week 3 Matches : Saturday May 20th, 7:30 pm EST vs Boston Breach

“Every single member of Atlanta FaZe has at least one ring so they are no strangers to the postseason pressure. aBeZy has shouldered a lot of the load for the team this season and is a likely MVP candidate. Although he’s a vet, SlasheR is the player with the most pressure heading into MWII Champs in Las Vegas. He no longer is in a position where he needs to be a star player, but he needs to be consistent in both SND and respawn game modes. Atlanta has won a Major this year and they haven’t finished outside of the Top 4 at all events (not including the upcoming Major V). If this team wants to get over their struggles against the top teams like OpTic and LA Thieves, they are going to need SlasheR to play consistently across all game modes.”

4th: Los Angeles ThievesĀ

Previous Ranking: 2nd (2)
Average Points Received : 8.0
Average Ranking Placement: 4.0
CDL Points : 255 (4th)
Major V Qualifier Week 3 Matches : Friday May 19th, 4:30 pm EST vs Minnesota Rokkr & Sunday May 21st, 4:30 pm EST vs London Royal Ravens

“LA has thrived this season behind a very balanced effort out of all four players on the roster. This hasn’t been the case so far in the qualifiers and fans have been putting pressure on Kenny to regain form. It always seems like he’s the player that fans expect more from, but he always has a knack for delivering. I don’t expect his form to dip going into the end of the season.Ā While they have struggled in the Major V qualifiers, they will always be a threat to make runs deep into tournaments, as they did at Major IV on their way to victory.”Ā

5th: New York SublinersĀ

Previous Ranking: 5th ()
Average Points Received : 7.0
Average Ranking Placement: 5.0
CDL Points : 245 (5th)
Major V Qualifier Week 3 Matches : Friday May 19th, 6:00 pm EST vs Seattle Surge & Sunday May 21st, 6:00 pm EST vs Boston Breach

New York won the first Major of the season, but haven’t been able to make another Grand Finals since. They still have plenty of talent to get hot and make a run at either tournament weekend to end the year. To achieve that though, they’ll need their superstar player to lead the way. HyDra will be required to continue his form to help New York take down team that would be favored against them. They have proven they could do it once, so its unwise to doubt them down the road.”

6th: Boston Breach

Previous Ranking: 6th ()
Average Points Received : 5.3
Average Ranking Placement: 6.7
CDL Points : 180 (7th)
Major V Qualifier Week 3 Matches : Saturday May 20th, 7:30 pm EST vs Atlanta FaZe & Sunday May 21st, 6:00 pm EST vs New York Subliners

“Heading into Major V, Boston is one of the teams that is currently on the ā€œbubbleā€ regarding qualification for Champs. They’re currently sitting at the #7 seed, but Minnesota, Vegas and Florida are not far behind. This roster has seen a lot of change, specifically players being elevated from the Academy Roster to the main roster. With the lack of true veterans on this roster, you could make the argument that they are all under the pressure for this time of the season. To single one player out in particular, I would say that Kremp is the one who has the most to prove. His performance with Boston thus far has been solid and he has proven that the decision to elevate him was the right thing to do for now. Looking ahead at the offseason and rostermania, Kremp’s spot on the team is probably the least guaranteed at the moment considering how new he is to the CDL roster. Not only will he be facing pressure to perform as best as possible with Breach in general, but he will also need to continue proving that he belongs in the pros moving forward whether that ends up being with Boston or another franchise.”

7th: Seattle Surge

Previous Ranking: 8th (1)
Average Points Received : 5.0
Average Ranking Placement: 7.0
CDL Points : 190 (6th)
Major V Qualifier Week 3 Matches : Friday May 19th, 6:00 pm EST vs New York Subliners & Saturday May 20th, 3:00 pm EST vs Las Vegas Legion

“Seattle hasn’t been able to unlock their potential so far this season in Modern Warfare 2. Last season they were always a threat to win titles and were the team you didn’t want to match up against. The potential is still there, they just need a good result to kick-start the momentum. While Seattle has had two stars do great slaying-wise, they will need their third star Mack to step it up to end the year. Fan pressure has been on him, but he has proven he can hit a high level.”Ā

8th: Las Vegas Legion

Previous Ranking: 7th (1)
Average Points Received : 4.9
Average Ranking Placement: 7.1
CDL Points : 150 (9th)
Major V Qualifier Week 3 Matches : Saturday May 20th, 3:00 pm EST vs Seattle Surge

“Las Vegas has been fighting fiercely this season, and fans have rallied behind them. They are just 10 CDL points behind Minnesota now and seem to have all the momentum behind them. We have seen moments of brilliance out all of the players, but pressure might be most on Temp going into the end of the season. When he is playing his game, like he did against Minnesota this weekend, Vegas are very dangerous. Unfortunately, he didn’t have that form at Major IV but its time for redemption at Major V.”

Easy Mac

9th: Florida Mutineers

Previous Ranking: 8th (1)
Average Points Received : 2.9
Average Ranking Placement: 9.1
CDL Points : 100 (10th)
Major V Qualifier Week 3 Matches : Friday May 19th, 3:00 pm EST vs London Royal Ravens & Saturday May 20th, 4:30 pm EST vs OpTic Texas

“Florida’s fight for Champs might all be over, but that doesn’t mean they can’t fight for a title at Major V. This team has spirit, and when they find momentum in matches they can easily cause upsets. Add in that they have a high chance to make Upper bracket in Toronto if they end the qualifiers strong. With news that Heretics is coming in next season, pressure is on Vikul to end the season on a high note and hit the potential that he has shown flashes of. If he can do that, he’ll be one of the faces of the Miami Heretics next season.”

10th: Minnesota RØKKR

Previous Ranking: 9th (1)
Average Points Received : 2.3
Average Ranking Placement: 9.7
CDL Points : 160 (8th)
Major V Qualifier Week 3 Matches : Friday May 19th, 4:30 pm EST vs LA Thieves & Sunday 21st, 3:00 pm EST vs Toronto Ultra

“Minnesota is the one team where I would say rather than a player, the pressure falls mostly on the coaching duo of Brian Saintt and Loony. They have faced a lot of scrutiny for poor performances and questionable roster decisions. Most recently, they decided to bench Afro and bring Attach back onto the starting roster. Afro was largely considered to be the player with the most superstar potential and now, he will likely be watching Champs from home if Minnesota manages to qualify. Even more than Boston, Minnesota is on the bubble for champs qualification. Currently sitting in the 8th and final seed, they cling to a 10 point advantage over the Clayster-led Vegas Legion. The remaining Major V qualifier matches and the Major itself are all must win matches for this team if they want to solidify their spot to compete in the postseason. If they were to underperform and miss out on CDL Champs, it’s likely that both Saintt and Loony will be the ones to blame and will face the consequences.”

11th: Los Angeles Guerrillas

Previous Ranking: 11th ()
Average Points Received : 1.0
Average Ranking Placement: 11.0Ā
CDL Points : 80 (11th)
Major V Qualifier Week 3 Matches : Saturday May 20th, 6:00 pm EST vs Toronto Ultra

“This season has been a disaster for the Guerrillas, but there have been some bright spots at times. Realistically, the pressure is on all four players to end on a high note and compete for spots on starting rosters. With the fate of the LA franchise unknown, I think an interesting name to consider is Exceed. He has had some great maps, but hasn’t been able to consistently put it together. With a great end to the season, he will put himself at the forefront of rostermania at the end of year for some teams.”

12th: London Royal Ravens

Previous Ranking: 12th ()
Average Points Received : 0.0
Average Ranking Placement: 12.0
CDL Points : 60 (12th)
Major V Qualifier Week 3 Matches : Friday May 19th, 3:00 pm EST vs Florida Mutineers & Sunday May 21st, 4:30 pm EST vs LA Thieves

“London has officially done something no other team has done before. They have scored 0 points in voting, the first time it has happened so far. London does have solid pieces on the roster, but have not meshed well and found chemistry. Two players with a spotlight on them would be Nastie and Asim. Both have had high notes this year, but haven’t hit them consistently. Right now they will certainly be in discussions for spots next year, but with great performances down the stretch their opportunities could be greater.”
